چکیده

Modified Citrus Pectin Introduction Modified citrus pectin (MCP), also known as fractionated pectin, is a complex polysaccharide obtained from the peel and pulp of citrus fruits. Modified citrus pectin is rich in galactoside residues, giving it an affinity for certain types of cancer cells. Metastasis is one of the most life-threatening aspects of cancer and the lack of effective anti-metastatic therapies has prompted research on MCP’s effectiveness in blocking metastasis of certain types of cancers, including melanomas, prostate, and breast cancers.

Heat-Modified Citrus Pectin Induces Apoptosis-Like Cell Death and Autophagy in HepG2 and A549 Cancer Cells

Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and finding new treatments remains a major challenge. Previous studies showed that modified forms of pectin, a complex polysaccharide present in the primary plant cell wall, possess anticancer properties. Nevertheless, the mechanism of action of modified pectin and the pathways involved are unclear. Here, we show that citrus pectin m...

A New Approach to Metastatic Cancer Prevention: Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP), A Unique Pectin that Blocks Cell Surface Lectins

Citrus pectin (CP) is a commercially available, water-soluble fiber with proven health benefits. The branching polysaccharide structure of CP can be altered to produce a lower molecular weight, galactose-rich, modified citrus pectin (MCP) which has unique properties. Specifically, MCP, but not CP, might help retard cancer metastasis by combining with an array of galactose-specific proteins on t...

Is modified citrus pectin an effective mobilizer of heavy metals in humans?

Page 283 Is Modified Citrus Pectin an Effective Mobilizer of Heavy Metals in Humans? Three small studies supporting the use of modified citrus pectin (MCP) for mobilization of heavy metals have recently been conducted by several closely linked authors. The most recent study, published in the July/August 2008 issue of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, claims dramatic results in lead ...

Galectin-3 mediates aldosterone-induced vascular fibrosis.

OBJECTIVE Aldosterone (Aldo) is involved in arterial stiffness and heart failure, but the mechanisms have remained unclear. Galectin-3 (Gal-3), a β-galactoside-binding lectin, plays an important role in inflammation, fibrosis, and heart failure. We investigated here whether Gal-3 is involved in Aldo-induced vascular fibrosis. METHODS AND RESULTS In rat vascular smooth muscle cells Gal-3 overe...

Integrative medicine and the role of modified citrus pectin/alginates in heavy metal chelation and detoxification--five case reports.

Heavy metal body burden can contribute to chronic disease, as well as interfere with the body's capacity to recover from illness. The five case studies presented here show that reduction in toxic heavy metals (74% average decrease) was achieved without side effects, with the use of PectaSol modified citrus pectin (MCP) (EcoNugenics; Santa Rosa, CA, USA) alone or with an MCP/alginates combinatio...
